naive audiophile
yes, that's what i am now. a self-proclaimed audiophile. and a freakin' naive one. just to sum it up nicely, my taste of music is seriously raw. i could like songs from almost any kind of genre while hating most of the songs from almost any kind of genre too! it's crazy.
and today, i feel that i should blog. why? because i just encountered two bloody good songs! and because tomorrow is june 3rd.
first thing first, the two songs, one i haven't managed to find the title. my colleague is going to bring his cd tomorrow and the cd will contain the title of that song (actually today, now is already friday). so yes. that one would have to wait for tomorrow.
the other song, however, took quite a hardwork to actually find. i heard the song while watching fifth episode of the second season of gilmore girls. the part where jess returned a book he borrowed (more like stole) from rory. he returned the book annotated with his own notes on the margin, much to rory's astonishment. well. it's obviously the start of the seasons long love affairs between rory and jess. make it rory, jess and dean. wow! this is gonna be fun. although seriously. logan is so much better. but that's like three years plus later.
anyway, the song played right there and then, captivating me. i couldn't believe my own ear and replayed that part of the dvd over and over again. ten seconds of sound clip, repeated over and over again. tried googling, failed. then i went to itunes music store, discovered a thirty seconds clip for the same song. still trying to google without much hope left. then i realised (from itunes music store) that the song is actually from gilmore girls soundtrack, our little corner of the world. tried to google the torrent file, also failed. amazon is actually selling the cd, but the shipping cost gonna be too expensive.
then, then . . .
then i recalled that once, years ago, i've downloaded this torrent called ultimate gilmore girls soundtrack (i believe there's no such cds though). so i rummaged through my whole 10 windows partitions with no results at all! i was damn frustrated! so, oh well, i decided that this song worth a trip to linux. if it's not in my windows partitions, it must be in my linux partitions. after another thirty minutes plus of searching and searching, i finally found it, hidden somewhere in my linux partition. i immeadiately copied the song to my windows partition and restarted my computer so that i could update the song into my iPod and listen to it tomorrow during my journey to work (oh today, not tomorrow).
but . . .
the restart was a pain in the ass. zonealarm is giving me loads of problems, prompting me to press the reset button in my computer thrice. i gave up and went into windows xp safe mode. uninstalled zonealarm fully (leaving me unprotected from virus and hackers for the first time in years, sheesh i just lost my trusty condom: zonealarm internet security suite, oh whatever). well, at least my computer works perfectly fine now.
and i believe that i haven't actually given out the title of the song that i really liked that made me went through all these troubles, even making me blog at 1am, when i was supposed to be asleep about half an hour before that. anyway, here you go!
Girl From Mars
Ash
Do you remember the time I knew a girl from mars?
I dont know if you knew that.
Oh we'd stay up late playing cards,
Henri winterman cigars.
Though she never told me her name,
I still love you, girl from mars.
Sitting in our dreamy days by the water's edge,
On a cool summers night.
Fireflies and the stars in the sky,
Gentle glowing light,
From your cigarette.
The breeze blowing softly on my face,
Reminds me of something else.
Something that in my memory has been replaced,
Suddenly it all comes back.
And as I look to the stars.
I remember the time I knew a girl from mars,
I dont know if you knew that.
Oh we'd stay up late playing cards,
Henri winterman cigars.
Though she never told me her name,
I still love you, girl from mars.
Surging through the darkness over the moonlight strand,
Electricity in the air.
Twisting all through the night on the terrace,
Now that summers here.
I know you are almost in love with me,
I can see it in your eyes.
Strange light shimmering over the sea tonight,
And it almost blows my mind
And as I look to the stars
I remember the time I knew a girl from mars,
I dont know if you knew that.
Oh wed stay up late playing cards,
Henri winterman cigars.
Though she never told me her name,
I still love you, girl from mars.
Today I sleep in the chair by the window,
It felt as if youd returned.
I thought that you were standing over me,
When I woke there was no-one there.
I still love you, girl from..
Mars
Do you remember the time I knew a girl from mars?
I dont know if you knew that.
Oh wed stay up late playing cards,
Henri winterman cigars.
Though she never told me her name.
Do you remember the time I knew a girl from mars?
I dont know if you knew that.
Oh we'd stay up late playing cards.
Henri winterman cigars.
And I still dream of you,
I still love you, girl from mars

this song is really wholesome goodness! i mean it's almost perfect. the intro, which is also the chorus, is freakin' catchy and cool! i mean look at the lyrics, how much more cooler can it be? the guitar riffs? holy shit! and okay, let me get this out, the part that catch me most while watching the show (gilmore girls) was this part:
Do you remember the time I knew a girl from mars?
I dont know if you knew that.
Oh we'd stay up late playing cards.
Henri winterman cigars.
And I still dream of you,
I still love you, girl from mars
yes this part! especially the part in bold. that caught me. then the rest of the chorus caught be. then the tune caught me. then the instruments caught me. and now, after listening to the whole song, it just captivates me.
oh, i'm such a naive audiophile. but i love it that way. no need to critic anything. just enjoy and enjoy and enjoy. i seriously need to celebrate this occasion. oh, and tomorrow is june 3rd. hmm. time to do some lorelai re-enactment. hold on.
background: lorelai is totally drunk. and she's giving a toast at lane's weddings.
lorelai: ...I mean, I'm so happy that this adorable 22-year-old girl has gotten married. Because it's amazing! you know, it's really hard to get married. Believe me, I should know. I mean, seriously, because Lane is getting married, then my daughter, and then my granddaughter, but not me. I'm not getting married. No, it ain't for me, it's not in the card. but... hey, you know what date I'm not getting married? June 3rd. Do not save the date. (laugh) Do you hear me? Don't save june 3rd, because there's nothing at all happening on june 3rd. if there's anything you need to book or anything, it's totally safe to book it on june 3rd. So congratulations lane... and zack! oh my gosh who miss the yummy bartenders? i know, me too! they were so great. i was gonna ask them to not work on june 3rd on my not wedding, i just thought it's gonna be so fun. oh, hey, Chris, hey, Rory? Hey...
rory: I bought some coffee...
lorelai: What? Well, I guess I'm going over here...
wow. that's probably one of the few occasion i saw lorelai actually got drunk. sigh. the storyline is so sad and i can't wait for season 7. but at the same time, i'm bittersweet too. season 7 is the finale. sigh.
oh for those unfamiliar with the story, lorelai is a single mother of rory. she got pregnant when she was 16. chris, also in the script, is rory's dad. and no, lorelai and chris is not together. they're more like distant friends who just got closer recently. the wedding was lane's, rory's best friend, and zach's, lane's bandmate. the other wedding is lorelai's and luke's, the owner of the town's most famous diner. cool story. you should watch it if you had the time.
hmm. okay. g'nite world!
