coincidence, yes?
"Co-incidence" means that two events unexpectedly happen at the same time, they meet.
-Milan Kundera
yesterday was a day of coincidences. i went to a movie screening of mccabe and mrs. miller. (the movie isn't great btw.) there i met a lot of people. first coincidence, jianhao was there, that was the first time i was able to associate the name and the face. i've seen him, even talked to him time and again before. yet yesterday, someone was telling me about jianhao, and i had no idea who he is. during that screening, the same someone introduced me to jianhao. coincidence.
my classmate, junyi was there. and it led to the second coincidence. his classmate, ying ying, was there for the first time too. so we talked. after some time, we introduced each other (weird timeline, but acceptable). that's when i figured that he's from 02s60 and she's from 04s60, i'm of course, the odd one out from 03s34. coincidence.
that didn't stop there. we were all from the same cca, yet from different time. how many people have ever taken micromouse in their life? few, very few. yet, there we were, i took it in sji, ying ying took it in hwachong, and junyi took it in chinese high. it was destined that none of us took that cca together in hwachong, but at different time. otherwise we'd have met earlier. that, too, is in itself coincidence.
at the end of the screening, i had walked across the road with them instead of walking back home immediately. just a minute or two afterwards, natalie showed up. if i hadn't crossed the road, i wouldn't have met natalie. we wouldn't have talked. i wouldn't be introduced to this guy called eric. coincidence, yes?
life itself is a string of coincidence, don't you think? fate. coincidence. they are the same thing. i don't see any difference between the two. they are events meeting each other at fortuitous moments in life. if they had met differently, nothing would have come out of it.
a long time ago, over three years ago, i received a letter from an angel, who named herself black death (that's the name of the plague that wiped off over a million people in europe during the dark age--or was it middle age?). she said she wasn't from my junior class, and that she's a girl. i thought that's one of my junior class guys trying to pull a prank on me. i had a choice then, a choice of two events, to ignore or to reply, even if i were to be embarrassed myself in the near future. and reply i did. there were about two months worth of letter exchanges until we figured who each other was. she was this girl from 04s70, named joanne. we soon become friends through msn. coincidence.
we lost contact after i left hwachong. that's 2 years back. i added her to my msn a few days ago (my new msn). yesterday, she appeared online, along with all the other coincidences.
so was that fate trying to tell me something. or was yesterday just a day filled with coincidences? i might have never known. but one thing i know, yesterday was a happy day. a very happy day filled with coincidences.
