(wind) struck

wth. spoilt my happy mood. i just saw a video of a group of people running for students' council. so pretentious. so faked. so arrogant. i guess the standards have gone down from the hardworking 30th council to the fun 31st council to the crazy 32nd council. and now. at least in my time, we did funny and lame videos. not things that are so pretentious that the videos just spit the word "vote us" throughout. i mean, yea. we know we need to vote (okay, i no longer can, but...). but why don't let us decide to see whether you really love to serve the school, whether you are worth of our votes. they must be desperate to put up such a video. come on man! didn't you all see the past MAF's videos, or the past orientation videos, or the past ELECO videos? These are things that come from our heart (and brain). things that make people laugh and be happy. that's the spirit! we're one happy family. didn't you rememeber the fun of orientation with those people who didn't suck-up to teachers and OGLs?

i hope 33rd will prove its worth. and i'm sure they will.

Hwa Chong ai pi mai pi?
ai pi! ai pi! ai pi!
Hwa Chong ai pia mai pia?
ai pia! ai pia! ai pia!
Hwa Chong ai ya mai ya?
ai ya! ai ya! ai ya!
ai ya, tio kan kan chiong! chiong! chiong!
Hwa Chong!

i can still feel it burning, albeit much less fierce than it used to be. i hope it'll never be quenched. that's the hwa chong spirit. no joke.

anyway, back to my happy mood. two things. let's start from the less important one.

I FINISHED MY 30% SONIC ARTS PROJECT! (well, most of it that is)

i started doing my Max/MSP patch yesterday at 3pm. rushed to Cyberart Studio at 3pm and then had some fun there with some of my sonic arts classmates. two guys were doing sound/video interaction. looks damn cool! and it IS cool! another is doing some project with his other classmates from another class. another came just for fun. exciting!

anyway, i sweat blood trying to write that patch i christened as OTUDP PatchDecider. it's freakin' cool! i really loved it. by 7pm yesterday, i had enough. it was half working, but i still faced some bugs. so decided to go back and relax. this morning, i woke up early, and left for cyberarts studio at 10am. (no wonder there's no blog entry in the morning, as i usually do.) worked my heart out until 145pm, i was just testing my patch when the prof stepped into the room. and it WORKED! my OTUDP-PD just works fine! so love it! i still can't believe that i did it.

my presentation was so, so. i only had 5 minutes to prepare my powerpoint slides. so i just explain all the technicalities with simplest possible language and went to the demonstration. the demo was just cool. at first i let them (the class) stood in the middle of six computers that i set up beforehand. then i used my master computer to bang (that's a max lingo, which means, well, bang! i.e. start) the other patches on the six computers. the six computers immediately played the sound of a jungle (which i downloaded off the net and repeated on loop using a subpatch). then i dimmed the light. when the environment is just right, i banged the other patch, which immediately played sounds of birds chirping. to be exact eighteen different birds chirping around you at different time. yes, every computer was capable to produce three different chirping sounds. and since the speakers are all around you, you really can feel the immersion within that small space you stood at.

somebody remarked, "wow, it feels as if i'm standing at jurong bird park." thanks. really appreciate that. my prof was quite happy with this work too. so i guess, my future is quite safe (by future, i mean grade) for this module.

secondly, i'm happy because i got the chance to talk properly to meyl after so long. took me quite a bit of courage (quoting prbs, "grow some balls!"). i still scared you'll bite my head off lar. thanks god you didn't. otherwise i wouldn't be able to write this. here's how the story goes. i was helping celia, tat, etc. cooking for a 9pm dance supper at d-block kitchenette. so at the end, that was 9pm, i just impulsively went up to your floor and knocked at your door (p.s. that's the short story, there's a longer version ;)). sorry for the long disturbance k? =P

but anyway, that made my day. thanks loads.

today's favourite song is from serendipity the movie. this year by chantal kreviazuk. i just watched that show on impulse a few days ago (did i write about that? i think i did). anyway, i suddenly liked this song with no obvious reason. previously i didn't think it was that great. but after watching the show again, my opinion swerved. so here goes.

This Year
Chantal Kreviazuk

This year, is gonna be incredible
This year, is gonna be the one
All the planets are lining up for me
This year, I'm gonna have fun

This year, I'll paint my masterpiece
This year, I'll be recognized
I can feel like I'll fall in love for real
This year, this year

January, I'll learn to fly
February, love's gonna find me
March, April, May, I'll get carried away
Oh, oh...

This year, I'll reach the pinnacle
This year, I'll get to the top
People will ask where she get that energy
This year, I'm never gonna stop

January, I'll learn to fly
February, love's gonna find me
March, April, May, I'll get carried away
Oh, oh, oh, oh...

This year, is gonna be incredible
This year, is gonna be the one
All the planets are lining up for me
This year, I'm gonna have fun

I'm gonna have fun
Just watch me now
This year
This year
This year

today is the first time i ever went to a class in NUS in anything longer than a bermuda. yeps. i wore a long pants. i'm still wearing it now, my favourite baggy pants. my classmates were shocked lar! why did i wear pants? because the cyberarts studio is just freakin' cold! yesterday i almost froze after sitting my butt out in that studio for four hours without break (not even a toilet break).

btw, although cyberarts studio can be used until 1030pm, the main door into that section of the building is locked electronically after 6pm. you would need a friend inside to open it up for you. just a little warning from your (un)friendly writer.
