the day of inconvenient truth

i've started reading. all nonsense still. but reading nevertheless. today i managed to read a few research paper on p2p. rather interesting. i was thinking of reading some islam books too, in a bid to find some research topic for my 6000 words 60% term paper. haven't done that one though. shall try to do tomorrow since i'll be quite free with only 1 class tomorrow. no make it no class tomorrow. no mood to attend os lecture.

i was thinking of getting my hand of some european history books. but decided to delay that to holiday. i mean, i've enough things at hands to even think of reading more stuffs outside what's required in the syllabus. i think prof mendis is quite right when he stated matter-of-fact-ly that singapore education (and in fact most education institutions in the world) is too bogged down with a long list of details in the syllabus while it is likely that no more than 10% is going to be useful after university. this prof is not bad actually. i started to enjoy his classes quite a bit more than before.

talking about university, do you know that the oldest university in the world is nalanda university? i figured that out yesterday during the talk by LKYSPP dean, mr kishore mahbubani. not bad huh!? i actually attended that talk. quite surprised by myself actually. i promised myself that today is a new day. and it will be a new day.

imagine this. at 12 midnight, i cleaned my room. it's now so clean (not the clean standard of most girls, and some guys, but clean for my standard) i could really breathe more easily. kristy pointed out that my room does not stink like what she believed, but that it lacks ventilation. so i opened both of my blinds now instead of just one. and yeah, really, it feels a lot cooler and better. maybe because it's raining outside now.

back to book. i really have this urge to go to library, borrow one or two history books (most likely european history, since i'm averse to american history and i'm not really interested in asian history, with exception of middle east during early islam era), and start reading. but my common sense got the better part of me. i refused to budge and decided firmly to stay on track on academic stuffs first and read some other time. another book that i had in mind is Only Revolution by Mark Z. Danielewski. according to its amazon review and snapshot, this book is an avant garde fiction. the kind that i've never encountered before. so i'd be really happy when i can lay my hand on this book (in a few weeks time, after exam). ahh! so many books to read, but no time at all. regretted spending so much of my time playing.

oh, not to mention thursday next's novels. this series would definitely appeal to book lovers man! c'mon, a story about a book detective. about a nemesis that could steal characters from books, selling plot devices in black markets, etc. what more could you ask? ;)

anyway, today is a little different from a normal day. i spent 2 hours chatting away at 6th floor of the usp block. they are having this logo voting thing for the usc. so i was just talking with jaesson and fumin there. then there was this girl and this guy that i didn't really know before 12 noon but now i know. lol! the girl's name actually reminded me of my jc classmate, in fact, the name is very similar but for 3 letters, 2 in the surname and 1 in the given name. jie hui, that's the name. the guy is royston. i'm wondering how i could meet two people with certain features that are totally unique.

she likes the time traveller's wife. what in the world!? firstly, the chances that a singaporean girl has read that book is closed to zero. for one to actually like it very much is nearer to negative (i said nearer). in my whole life before today, not a single person had ever heard of this book before i mentioned it to them. i guess, i might've asked all the wrong people. this audrey niffenegger's masterpiece is really one of my all-time favourites, along with lotr, american gods, and a few more books here and there (ah, talking about neil gaiman, i heard fragile things is not as good as his previous works, so i'll probably will give it a skip and focus to get anansi boys and coraline).

talking about time traveller's wife, i just read in NewMan that... wait, let me phrase myself. i don't actually read NewMan. it just happened that i was having my haircut and the person handed me that magazine. i skimmed through the cover and i saw an article on books. how convenient. this magazine usually is all about vanity, but well, books, how vain can that be. so i read the article. it's about books you should have at your shelves to impress women. erm. i guess most of them are rubbishy choices. but two really struck a chord. time traveller's wife and thursday with morrie (or was it five people you meet in heaven?). anyway, that's when i read about the genre of the time traveller's wife. i've been putting this book under romance. and yes, this is probably the only 'romance' book that i like. when i read the genre classification in the magazine, i almost burst to laugh. they call it macho romance what the heck!? that's so freakin' wrong man!

anyway, she also takes dr johan geertsema's module, albeit a different one. she wanted to take power, space and pleasure but couln't get it. but she got understanding irony. it's a pity really. power space is a friggin' good module (imho, of course, since i took it). the only comparable writing module is probably that module on minds.

ah, not to mention that i've a good time talking about martial arts with royston. freakin' cool! he's a judo guy! same like lionel. i always thought judo is cool, but i'm averse to it since i don't like being thrown around. ^^ i prefer the fast-paced, leg-oriented tkd over judo. so that's why i'm in tkd now. that said, i missed another tkd training yesterday due to the talk. hmm. and the cheerleading training yesterday. was fun. it's a totally different fun from tkd. been missing quite a lot of cheerleading training due to tkd. but my ex-captain has asked me to balance out the two more. so i might be attending quite a bit of cheerleading training from now onwards.

hmm. i shouldn't talk so much. back to work. then dinner. then on my way to watch an inconvenient truth, free gv ticket from the usp. so happy. it's about global warming, and global warming issues usually strike a chord with me.

okay. off i go.
cheers.
p.s. btw. don't read too much into the title. since the only reason why it's there is because i'm going to watch the show today. so it's a good timepost, right?
