i've been reading
it's been sometime and i've been reading. literally. it's been awhile since i've that page-turner urge in me. i feel like devouring books after books, yet at the same time i want to savour each book in its entirety. i've been reading very slowly. page by page, reading each line carefully for hidden meaning, for powerful sentences, for new words, for so many things i tend to miss when i read fantasy or thriller books.
obviously, the books i'm reading now are bordering tough reads. no longer am i so enticed by light reads (like i mentioned, fantasy and thriller). right now, i'm devouring this book by primo levi, titled the periodic table. the book started on an almost boring footing. i almost couldn't bear to continue reading. but it got better, honestly. after the boring and noble argon, there was the explosive hydrogen, the reactive zinc and the cold hard iron. yes, i'm at iron now. only the fourth chapter after a day. i've been trying my best to squeeze a page or two, or even a paragraph of two of readings when i'm bordering free, but i never am free.
so what's next after the periodic table? i planned to finish orwell's 1984, the book is interesting, but it's getting dark now. then after that i'm going to follow a friend suggestion to read jane austen. probably sense and sensibility, but nothing suggest that i shouldn't start somewhere alse, like northanger abbey for example, a gothic satire. bram stoker's dracula should somewhere down the line as well.
then there's this book by salman rushdie, the satanic verse. i couldn't find it in singapore, i heard it's been banned, hope not though. then probably i'll move to modern read, the inheritance of loss. or stays in old days with wuthering heights. ahh, so many books to read, yet no time to read them all. sigh.
anyway, i really wish i could read more books now. for now, my target is to finish the periodic table by the end of the coming week. i sure hope i can do that. (:
Building A Mystery
Sarah McLachlan
You come out at night
That's when the energy comes
And the dark side's light
And the vampires roam
You strut your rasta wear
And your suicide poem
And a cross from a faith that died
Before Jesus came
You're building a mystery
You live in a church
Where you sleep with voodoo dolls
And you won't give up the search
For the ghosts in the halls
You wear sandals in the snow
And a smile that won't wash away
Can you look out the window
Without your shadow getting in the way?
You're so beautiful
With an edge and charm
but so careful
When I'm in your arms
Cause you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully
You woke up screaming aloud
A prayer from your secret god
You feed off our fears
And hold back your tears, oh
Give us a tantrum
And a know it all grin
Just when we need one
When the evening's thin
You're a beautiful
A beautiful fucked up man
You're setting up your
Razor wire shrine
Cause you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully
Ooh you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
Holding on and holding it in
Yeah you're working
Building a mystery
And choosing so carefully
You're building a mystery
